Almost Two-thirds of the couples in UK which are looking for surrogacy arrangement are going beyond the national territories to seek their dreams of becoming a parent. Reason can be quoted as higher surrogacy costs along with fewer options available within the country for the surrogacy arrangements.
Even as per media reports in the UK, absence of clearly defined laws, higher surrogacy costs along and lack of protection of the rights of both the intended parents and surrogate mother, are one of the reasons why most of the people are going to different other locations like Mexico, Ukraine or Kenya. Although there are people who travel to other countries like Mexico and USA even whilst its more expensive there, places like Kenya, Mexico and Ukraine still tops the list
Additionally, there are those surrogacy agencies overseas which allow uncharacteristic families, a chance to start their own family with the help of surrogacy. People are provided with customized surrogacy packages and programs with high levels of support and care in the process at a much lower cost and this could be quoted as one of the biggest reasons behind its popularity amongst people from foreign locations.
Quite recently, there’s a big upsurge recorded in the number of people going for “cross-border” programs where the local IVF clinic at intended parent’s location is used to fertilize the embryos and the same embryo is then transported overseas to get it implanted in the uterus of the surrogate mother. While everyone know about the better health systems in the UK, more and more intended parents are getting benefited by the affordable services of their localized clinic in the same regards.
Still the government authorities are planning to bring revolutionary changes to the already established health system in order to make it more conducive for the couples who are looking for surrogacy arrangement in the foreign locations. Moreover, whilst bringing the child back to the country takes a lot of paperwork and legal formalities and paperwork, the UK government is looking for some reforms in the same direction.
As of now, it is almost impossible to create a legally binding surrogacy arrangement in UK so people still prefer other locations for the same purpose. We can still stay hopeful of witnessing big reforms in order to make the surrogacy arrangement both convenient and affordable cost for the local people in coming future.
